High grade WANAMAs contains some grated wild yam called 自然薯【JINENJYO】to add soft,moist feeling and nice flavor.
Dough of WANAMA has VERY smooth skin and can be shaped,colored freely into flowers,birds,and any other shapes.
They are like a piece of short poems to represent beauty of nature or seasons.
Some WANAMA have names of famous short poems.

Steamed buns filled with ANKO are one of very basic wagashi sweets.
High grade MANJYUU called 薯蕷饅頭【JYOUYO-MANJYUU】served at tea ceremonies contains grated 自然薯【JINENJYO】wild yam to add flavor and moist-soft feeling.
